The members of our Board of Directors are drawn from
diverse backgrounds but all have worked for years to
bring ecology, environmental science and business decision-making
together.
Orie L. Loucks, M.Sc.F., Ph.D., President
Dr. Loucks is the emeritus Ohio Eminent Scholar in Applied
Ecosystem Studies and Professor of Botany and Zoology,
Miami University. He was Professor of Botany, University
of Wisconsin, 1962 to 1978 and Director of the Center
for Biotic Systems there from 1972-1978. He was Director
of the Institute of Ecology and the Holcomb Research
Institute, Butler University, Indianapolis, IN, working
on global carbon sequestration and air pollutant effects
from 1978 to 1989. Dr. Loucks is the author or co-author
of five books and some 200 peer-reviewed papers and
book chapters, and has worked at Miami University exploring
links between business and science, seeking common principles
of sustainable development. He served on the National
Academy of Sciences Board on Water Science and Technology
in the 1980's, and was U.S. Co-Chair of the 1986 joint
NRC-NAS/Royal Society of Canada study reviewing the
1978 Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. He also served
as a member of the Science Advisory Board, International
Joint Commission, and as a member of the national Board
of Governors of The Nature Conservancy (1984-1994).
Dr. Loucks' education includes undergraduate and graduate
degrees from the University of Toronto and University
of Wisconsin.
Raymond Gorman, MBA, A.B., D.B.A.,
Director and Treasurer
Dr. Gorman is Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies
and Professor of Finance, Richard T. Farmer School of
Business, and former director of the Center for Sustainable
System Studies, Miami University. His academic background
is in corporate finance and mathematical economics.
His research interests include analysis of the effects
of mergers and acquisitions on the rate of resource
depletion in target companies and the feasibility and
utility of mutual funds specializing in "green" investments.
He served recently as Editor of the Mid-American Journal
of Business. His training includes A.B., Brown University,
MBA, Duke University, and D.B.A., Indiana University.
Harry J. Stone, B.S., M.S., MBA,
Ph.D., Director and Secretary
Dr. Stone is Research Leader and Manager of the Environmental
Technology Commercialization Center, Battelle, Cincinnati
Operations. He has more than 20 years of experience
with business including commercial development and launch
of many science-based products and various "entrepreneurial
start-ups". He has served as Vice President of an economic
development organization providing engineering, machining
and environmental consulting. Dr. Stone's programs have
received state and national recognition, including the
Governor's Pollution Prevention Award (Ohio). His education
includes advanced degrees in science, business, and
public policy.
Stephen Dillenburg, B.Sc., MBA, C.F.A.
Mr. Dillenburg's training and experience have been primarily
in investment management, portfolio management, marketing
and sales He directed the socially responsive investment
group for Scudder, Stevens and Clark for nearly a decade.
After Scudder he developed the Total Stakeholder Impact
Index (TSI), an enhanced S&P 500 index, based on ratings
of corporate stakeholder treatment including the environment.
He managed the Summit TSI Fund from its inception in
2001 through its closure in 2005. Mr. Dillenburg has
been an advisory board member for the Center for Sustainable
Systems Studies at Miami University, the CEMP program
at the Ross School of Business at the University of
Michigan and the Bloch School of Business at the University
of Missouri-Kansas City. He currently directs the marketing
effort for ICValue.
Alison Bevilacqua, B.A., M.A.
Alison Bevilacqua is a member of Legg Mason Investment
Counsel's Socially Responsive Investing Group, where
she specializes in corporate responsibility research.
Since joining the firm in 1997, Alison has worked to
develop and expand research and screening areas, and
regularly represents the firm at meetings of SRI organizations.
She serves on the steering committees for the Social
Investment Research Analyst Network and the International
Working Group of the Social Investment Forum. Alison
has a B.A. from the University of Arizona and an M.A.
in economics from Miami University, where she assisted
faculty in developing a curriculum on sustainable development.
Elinor J. Loucks, B.A.
A graduate of the University of Toronto, Ms. Loucks
worked as a Research Assistant in Sociology at the University
of Wisconsin, and as Assistant to the Vice-President
for Business Affairs, Butler University, Indianapolis,
in the 1980s. In Oxford, Ohio she has served as Secretary
for the Friends of Lane Library Board, as a member of
the Board and of the Curriculum Committee of the Institute
for Learning in Retirement at Miami University and in
other volunteer roles in the community.
